My ham radio background

At a recent family reunion we realized that there are over 30 licensed Ham Radio operators in my family, so it was only a matter of time that I became a huge Ham Radio fanatic. My family and friends mainly use ham radio equipment for off-road, 4x4 purposes to coordinate were we should explore, which turns to take, emergencies, and keeping the group together. Of course a lot of us also have base units and tall towers to talk long distances from home as well.
Even though I love the hobby and have been licensed since 2002, I still feel like a beginner. I have a lot to learn about amateur radio. I would like to get my General class license so I can plug my TS-430 microphone back in and try out the HF bands.
Along with my love of the hobby, I try to take every opportunity to promote or simply just talk about ham radio to the people around me. I saw the need and thought it would be fun to create a well-organized, user-friendly website completely dedicated to keeping record of all the different movies and TV shows that have featured ham radios, as well as other types of two-way radios and related equipment. With this in mind, I created IMRDb.org (The Internet Movie Radio Database) in September 2009. I also hope to be able to figure out what type of radios are being used, even down to the exact model number, if possible. It's a work in progress but one example of a page that is 90% complete would be my Phenomenon movie page. I know there are a few sites out there that have some good info on this subject, but I wanted something more involved. I will be continually updating my site. I decided that I wanted my website to be in a common wiki format to offer the ability to edit, update, and add content to anyone. I would love any help from the ham radio community on this project. I really feel that it could help grow the hobby and show that ham radio can be fun as well as an important tool, even with the inventions such as the cell phone, internet, etc.
